In this Trekking we will cross the Forni glacier, which is the second Italian glacier (for its extension), reaching the plateau between Cima Giumella and Punta San Matteo. Here, on the 3rd of September 1918, the Kaiserschutzen recollected the summit lost 20 days before. San Matteo is known as the highest battle of the First World War, in which Arnaldo Berni, Captain of the Alpine troops, lost his life.

Technical description

  • DAY ONE: meet up at 2pm with the Mountain Guide in Peio Fonti, brief visit of the War Museum in Peio and transfer to Malga Termenago, rental of equipment (if necessary) and brief ascent o the Ferrata del Forte Barbadifior.
  • DAY TWO: transfer to Passo del Tonale – Ospizio di San Bartolomeo (m 1971) – Monte Tonale Orientale (m 2696) – Torrione d’Albiolo (m 2969) – Forcelletta del Montozzo (m 2613) – Diga del Pian Palù – Rif. Fontanino (m 1650).
  • DAY THREE: transfer by cable car to Rifugio Doss dei Cembri (2315m) – Rifugio Mantova al Vioz (m 3535) – Monte Vioz (m 3645) – Visita allo Stol di cima Linke – Dinner and overnight stay.
  • DAY FOUR: Rifugio Vioz (m 3535) – Col de le Pale Rosse (m 3405) – Palon de la Mare (m 3703) – Rifugio Branca (m 2487) – Dinner and overnight stay.
  • DAY FIVE: Rifugio Branca (m 2487) – Ghiacciaio dei Forni – Punta San Matteo (m 3676) – Vedretta del Dosegù    Rifugio Berni (m 2560) – Dinner and overnight stay.
  • DAY SIX: Rifugio Berni (m 2560) – Bivacco Battaglione Ortles (m 3120) – Pizzo di Val Umbrina (m 3222) – Malga Paludei (m 2182) – Lago Pian Palù – Rifugio Fontanino (m 1650) – then, back to Peio Fonti.

Info

Individual fee – 1 person = 1680 euros, 2 people = 850 euros, 3 people = 600 euros, 4 people = 500 euros, 5 people = 450 euros, 6 people = 380 euros.

It’s possible to rent the equipment: crampons, ice axe and harness.

Not included in the fee: the half board of the Guide for the nights spent at the huts (which will be taken care of by participants), the transfers.
