The area is surrounded by peaks; the mountain group ends with the northern section of Cevedale (3769m) – San Matteo (3676 m), 13 peaks over 3500 meters. The southern section comprehends Adamello (3554m) and Presanella (3558m), plus the widest glacier of the entire Alps, Mandrone glacier, 17kmq of quaternary ice. Because of the glacial environment in which the First World War was fought, the conflict has taken the name “White War”.

Technical description

  • DAY ONE: meet up at 2 pm with the Mountain Guide in Vermiglio, brief visit of the Museum of the War and transfer to Forte Strino.
  • DAY TWO: transfer to Passo del Tonale – Ospizio di San Bartolomeo (m 1971) – Monte Tonale Orientale (m 2696) – Torrione d’Albiolo (m 2969) – Passo Contrabbandieri (m 2681) – Ospizio di San Bartolomeo. And back.
  • DAY THREE: meet up in Passo del Tonale – cable car to Passo Paradiso (2585m) – brief visit of the Galleria Paradiso “Suoni e voci della Guerra Bianca” – Sentiero dei Fiori (via ferrata) – Corno di Lagoscuro (m 3166) – Passo di Lagoscuro (m 2970) – Rif. Mandrone (m 2449). Dinner and overnight stay.
  • DAY FOUR: Rifugio Mandrone – Itinerario Glaciologico V. Marchetti – Vedretta del Mandrone – Cannone 149 (3300) – Cresta Croce Cima Giovanni Paolo II (3313 m) – Rifugio Lobbia Alta ai Caduti dell’Adamello (m 3020). Dinner and overnight stay.
  • DAY FIVE: Rifugio Lobbia Alta – Passo di Cavento (m 3198) – Corno di Cavento (m 3406) – Rifugio Carè Alto (m 2459). Dinner and overnight stay.
    Day six: Rifugio Carè Alto – Passo Altar (m 2835) – Val Siniciaga – Cascate Nardis (m 919). Back to Val di Sole.

Info

Individual fee – 1 person = 1680 euros, 2 people = 850 euros, 3 people = 600 euros, 4 people = 500 euros, 5 people = 450 euros, 6 people = 380 euros.

It’s possible to rent the equipment: crampons, ice axe and harness.

Not included in the fee: the half board of the Guide for the nights spent at the huts (which will be taken care of by participants), the transfers.
